A Natural Cream Contoured Look

Thursday, August 08, 2013 Holly 25 Comments

I love reading about the way other girls do their makeup, so thought it would be nice to share how I do mine- in particular how I contour using cream blush & bronzer. I am so so so nervous to upload this, I still don't know whether I'm going to 100% post it or not. Purely because the photos are so up close and personal & it's practically inviting someone to pick on me for how I do my makeup! As always, I'm not claiming to be a makeup artist, doing makeup is just something I enjoy.

I think that using creams to contour gives a much more natural look, still bronzed and cheek-boney but easy to wear and much less obvious than powders. A down side is that it doesn't seem to last as long (for me anyway) but that's possibly because I'm only using an Elf Havana Blush & Bronze Duo, nothing fancy.

Before

Here I have just applied my foundation and every-day winged liner. I've filled in my brows and have applied one coat of mascara. On my lips is MACs Crème Cup (the one I reviewed yesterday). My makeup is only simple because I was only popping to the shops to buy the latest Glamour Magazine (I swear I always end up mentioning Glamour Mag in a post!).

During

Okay this looks kind of scary, and must seem so intimidating if you've never seen contouring with creams before, but I promise you it works!
(Google Kim Kardashian contouring)

All I have done is used the edge of a normal foundation brush to create a line underneath my cheek bones, this will blend to act as a shadow emphasising them and making them appear more bold & high. I've also added bronzer to my temples, this will be blended to create a more tanned complexion. Finally, bronzer-wise I have created two lines on the sides of my nose, this will blend to make it appear more thin and longer. I don't usually take this step when contouring, as I have kind of a squibby nose & it looks so weird in photos, but I've done it just for the sake of the post!

The next step is to blend the blusher that you will have placed above the line of bronzer, I tend to make this line significantly more thick and longer than the bronzer. This will blend out to give you that natural colour to your face and a dewy glow.

You can also add highlighter above the bronzer and blush, but I tend to favour powder highlighter as I feel like it's more effective.

Finished Look

So here is my finished look, it's definitely something that's subtle, I hope you can tell what I've done! These simple contouring steps take me literally two minutes, perfect for popping to the shops, work or even school.

Have any of you tried cream contouring?

Let me know if you want to see more posts like this, or whether I should just stick to my usual stuff!
