Before I'm Twenty
It's really crazy how fast time goes as you get older. I feel like it was just yesterday that I would sit cross-legged gazing up at the TV watching SMart, longing to be one of the twelve year olds sending their art work into the show. I would think "wow they're so old & they draw so well, I can't wait to be twelve" and now, within the blink of an eye- I'm nineteen.
Thinking about how fast time seems to be going as another birthday has passed has made me really want to make the most of things. Not just waste another year sitting around doing nothing, because before I know it.. I will be twenty. (Half way to forty and therefore half way to my life going totally down the drain according to my mum!).
I've put together a list of things that I really want to achieve before my twentieth birthday, we can catch up in 365 days to see if I've finished them all!
1: Take up a sport.
I'm thinking yoga, that's a sport right? I'm too lazy to run in the winter and I feel like I've completely forgotten everything I have learnt from doing karate when I was younger. So I feel like something totally new is on the cards.
2: Go to IMATS.
I didn't go last year, the stupid thing is that I don't even know why. I really regretted it after seeing so many bloggers write about what they bought and how many lovely people they met. This year I have to go.
3: Cook a Sunday dinner for all of my family.
My family have never really been 'into' food. It wasn't until I met my boyfriends family (who originate from South Africa) that I was introduced to real food. I'm talking flavours and texture built upon vibrant colours and merged with spice. I'd love to incorporate some of their gorgeous flavours into a traditional Sunday roast and serve it to all of my family.
4: Begin to learn Italian
I have always been fascinated with the Italian language, I think it's so beautiful. I noticed a few days ago that my university teach free language lessons, so it would be silly not to take advantage of the opportunity they're giving!
5: Try Sushi for the first time
It's raw fish. I don't care if it's a 'delicacy'. But... in light of my new found thinking, I will never know if I love it if I don't try it. Sushi? Come at me.
6: Go public with Along Came Holly
This may seem a little silly, but Along Came Holly is a well kept secret of mine. Only my boyfriend and closest friends know about my regular ramblings over the internet. I haven't told anyone for fear of someone telling me they hate it or picking at everything that's 'wrong'. I love to write, but I don't want people trying to analyse and criticise what I'm doing and spoil it for me. Hopefully at some point this year I will get over this fear, and actually not care what people think, but until then, ACH is our little secret!
7: Have a huge Picnic
I've longed to go out all summer and have a huge picnic. Lounging around in the sun and nibbling on homemade treats is the perfect day to me. I haven't had time this year (exams and work have been such a pain!) so hopefully, I can go next summer.
8: Make real plans to go abroad
I'm thinking a girls holiday, or even spending a few days in Amsterdam with my boyfriend. This year I made so many plans that didn't happen.. I definitely want to go away on an adventure before my twentieth birthday.. but where to go ?!
9: Go to a Roller disco
Ever since I read The Londoner's post on going to a roller disco recently, I've wanted to go to one. She looked like she had an amazing time! Now I just have to find someone who isn't embarrassed to whip out the neons, roller blades and make total fools of themselves!
So there you go, Nine things I really want to do before I'm twenty. Do you have anything you want to do before your next birthday?
